FAQS

Starting Therapy

We want you to feel confident and informed as you begin. We’ve gathered the essentials to help you get started.

  • The first step is to fill out our Initial Contact Form (found on the ‘Contact’ tab on the website. Once we receive your information, we’ll reach out to gather additional details before scheduling your first session. This helps us ensure we are the right fit for your specific goals.

  • The relationship between therapist and client is the biggest predictor of success. We recommend providing any specific questions on the official intake form and reviewing our 'About' page to see if our style resonates with you. It’s okay to 'shop around' until you find someone you feel safe with.

  • Think of it as a comprehensive "get to know you" session. It is a formal process where we gather information about your emotional health, personal history, and current challenges. This helps us ensure we are providing the right kind of care for your specific needs.

  • It ensures safety and accuracy. By taking a holistic look at your life, we can rule out other factors and make sure we aren’t just treating symptoms, but actually addressing the root causes of your distress.

  • Yes. We ask that all digital intake forms (sent via our secure Google Form or portal) be completed at least 24 hours before your appointment. This ensures we can spend our full session time focusing on you rather than on administrative details.

  • Not necessarily, but it is a tool used to determine if a diagnosis is appropriate. Diagnoses can be helpful for choosing the most effective, evidence-based treatment strategies for what you are experiencing.

FAQS

Fees & Policies

Everything you need to know about rates, scheduling, and your rights.

  • No, we are an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance directly. We have chosen this model to ensure that your care is guided solely by your needs and our professional expertise, rather than by the restrictions, coding requirements, or session limits often imposed by insurance companies.

However, you may be able to receive partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits. Upon request, we can provide you with a monthly Superbill (a detailed receipt of services) that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

Our services are also eligible expenses under most HSA and FSA plans. We recommend checking with your provider to ensure counseling is a covered expense under your specific plan, but we are happy to provide any Superbills or documentation you might need for reimbursement.

You can also find this information on our ‘Cost Of Care’ tab on the website.

  • Yes. The foundation of successful therapy is safety and trust. Legally and ethically, your privacy is protected by HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and our professional code of ethics. This means that we cannot and will not share that you are a client, or anything we discuss in our sessions, with anyone else without your written permission.

    The Important Exceptions

There are a few specific, legally mandated situations where we are required by law to break confidentiality to ensure safety:

    1. Safety to Self: If we have reason to believe you are in imminent danger of harming yourself.

    2. Safety to Others: If you disclose a specific plan to seriously harm another person.

    3. Abuse of Vulnerable Populations: If we learn about the ongoing abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult.

    4. Legal Orders: In the rare event of a court order or subpoena (though we will always attempt to protect your privacy to the fullest extent of the law first).

    How Your Data is Protected

We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to store all clinical notes and communication. Our video sessions (if applicable) are conducted over an encrypted, medical-grade platform to ensure no one else can "tune in" to our conversation.

  • Our Fees: Our standard fee for a 50-minute individual session is $100. Our standard fee for a 60-75-minute couples’ session is $200. If we are meeting for an initial intake assessment, the fee is $200.

The Good Faith Estimate: Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

    • Who gets one? Every client receives a GFE before our first appointment.

    • What’s in it? This estimate will show the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including psychotherapy sessions, based on our initial treatment plan.

    • When do I get it? You will receive your GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your first scheduled service. You can also ask me for a GFE at any time before you schedule an appointment.

Your Rights: If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the legal right to dispute the bill. I encourage you to save a copy of your GFE for your records.

You can also find this information on our ‘Cost Of Care’ tab on the website.

  • Therapy works best when sessions are consistent. However, we understand that life happens—emergencies arise, and schedules shift. Here is how we handle those situations:

    If You Are Running Late

    • The Grace Period: If you are running late, please send a quick text or email if it is safe to do so. We will hold your time slot for the duration of the hour.

    • Session Length: Please note that our session will still end at the scheduled time to ensure we are on time for the next client. For example, if we start 15 minutes late, we will have a 35-minute session rather than the full 50 minutes. The standard session fee still applies.

If You Need to Cancel or Reschedule

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations or requests to reschedule.

    • Notice Given (24+ Hours): There is no charge, and we will do our best to find a makeup time that fits your schedule later in the week.

    • Late Cancellation (Less than 24 Hours): If a session is cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

    • No-Shows: If you do not show up for a scheduled appointment and provide no notice, the full session fee will be charged to the card on file.

Why Is There a Late Fee?

The 24-hour policy is not meant to be punitive. When we schedule an appointment, that hour is specifically reserved for you. Unlike a doctor’s office that may double-book, we only see one person at a time. A late cancellation often means that another client who may have needed that hour was unable to be seen.

    True Emergencies

We understand that true emergencies (e.g., sudden illness, accidents, or family crises) occur. In these rare instances, please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss waiving the fee on a case-by-case basis.

  • You are always in control of your journey. You have the right to end therapy at any time, for any reason. Whether you feel you’ve met your goals, your circumstances have changed, or you simply feel we aren't the right "fit," we respect and support your decision.

    The "Closing Session"

If you decide to stop counseling, we typically recommend that we have one final "Closing Session." This gives us a chance to:

    • Review your progress: Acknowledge the hard work you’ve done and the growth you’ve achieved.

    • Consolidate tools: Summarize the strategies we’ve discussed so you have a clear plan moving forward.

    • Provide Referrals: If you feel we aren't the right fit, we are more than happy to provide names of other clinicians who might better align with your specific needs or style.

    The Benefit of Open Communication

If you are feeling stuck or unsatisfied with our work, we actually encourage you to bring that up in our session! Often, some of the most profound breakthroughs happen when we discuss the "bumps in the road" in the therapeutic relationship itself. We can always pivot our approach or try new techniques to better serve you.

    No Long-Term Contracts

Because we operate on a per-session basis, you are never locked into a long-term financial commitment. If you choose to stop, you are only responsible for the sessions you have attended (and any late cancellations, as per our 24-hour policy).
